Galveston Texas
This is the only thing on this trip that made me mad. This statue is dedicated by Jefferson Davis President of The Confederate States of America to the soldiers and who fought in the Battle of Galveston. It is also dedicated to the citizens of Galveston. As you can see time is taking it's toll on this monument. I know that it may not be the politically correct thing, and frankly I don't care. The city of Galveston, the State of Texas, I don't care, Someone needs to take care of and repair this statue. This is in front of the old court house. It is now where the homeless hang out, and panhandle to tourists. This is our history and it should be preserved. Not as the symbol of racism that the p.c. will claim it to be. But as the symbol of an American it is. An American who was willing to die for what he believed in and to protect his way of life. We can spend millions of dollars to dedicate parks and name roads after political figures. I don't think it's too much to ask to spend a few thousand repairing a statue that represents an important part of what this state is today.
